Compared to the beautiful photos of food that people post, this one won’t rank among the decadent. But it’s a tribute to caring and compassion. We had a long (good!) day recently with back-to-back presentations and no opportunity to grab a bite between sessions. But SB brought along a cooler in her trunk. It was stocked with water, sliders, cheese, fruit, chips and even condiments. Four of us had a lovely lunch together in the car between meetings. For SB, it was a simple act, but I found it to be a moving demonstration of care. And it wasn’t just SB. Another of our colleagues provided me with cough drops when the dry Albuquerque air made it tough to keep my voice. And MK provided me with my own little baggie of mints to keep with me during my visit. While all these seem like small gestures, they made my week. It was the acts of concern and generosity that meant so much. And it was the thoughts that counted: a welcome for a guest, a demonstration of empathy, a thought for someone else. So grateful.
