It turns out there are 5 simple things companies can do to have happier workers and the results that come from happier workers. They can establish reasonable working hours. They can lower power distance (give less orders and make more suggestions of workers). They can provide generous unemployment benefits (so workers can afford to leave jobs that aren’t a good fit and find others that are). They can provide constant training. They can focus on happiness.
The Danish culture has a word – arbejdsglaed – which means happiness at work. What a concept! It’s so much a part of their culture they have a word for it! In Japanese the word karoshi means death from overwork. That’s culture for you. Our languages demonstrate what we pay attention to. Happiness at work is a great place to start. Creating the conditions for abundance and fulfillment at work are good for workers and good for businesses.
